Ahmed Bule Gared, the regional Governor of Gedo, fled to the Ethiopian town of Dolow amid rising tensions.
Governor Gared fled when one of the region’s former governors, Osman Nur Haji, stormed the region with his troops.
Reports indicate that tensions are rife in the region.
Government troops are divided along clan lines.
Moreover, Haji left office after his differences with Jubaland’s President Ahmed Islam Madobe never gave him a moment to work.
Consequently, the region now has no governor.
Stakeholders have appealed to President Madobe to appoint a new administrator to take over from Governor Gared.
