General Asad Osman Abdullahi’s appointment as the new Police Chief of Somalia by the Somali Council of Ministers is a crucial development in the country’s ongoing efforts to bolster its security apparatus.
As he steps into this key role, Gen. Abdullahi will oversee the police force during a period of heightened focus on combating terrorism and organized crime.
His leadership is expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing law enforcement capabilities, improving coordination among security agencies, and strengthening national stability.
He takes over from Gen. Sulub Firin, who was promoted to Major General on Wednesday.
Afterward, he was then transferred to the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation as the new Deputy Minister in that docket.
On Thursday, the Council of Cabinet approved Gen. Abdullahi as Maj. Gen. Firin’s replacement as the Somali Police Force chief.
This move underscores the Somali government’s commitment to reforming its security sector and addressing the complex challenges of maintaining peace and security in the country.
