George Conway has been appointed the new Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations in Somalia.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced Conway’s appointment on Saturday.
Conway, a Canadian, will also serve as the Resident Coordinator of the UN Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM).
He takes over from the Sudanese Adam Abdelmoula, who has moved to Syria as the Resident Coordinator.
