German National Kidnapped in Mogadishu 7 Years Ago Appeals for Help

A recent video has surfaced featuring Sonja Nientiet, a German nurse who was abducted in Somalia seven years ago.

In the footage, she appeals to the German government for assistance, expressing concern for her deteriorating health and a strong desire to reunite with her loved ones.

Nientiet was kidnapped from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) compound in Mogadishu on May 3, 2018, in what authorities described as an inside job by a disgruntled former employee.

The ICRC has expressed hope for her release and continues to work towards securing it, while also being deeply concerned about her well-being. The German government, adhering to its policy, has not commented on the hostage case.

The security situation in Somalia remains unstable, with ongoing attacks by Al-Shabaab militants, including a recent assassination attempt on the president.
