The Somali government is set to collaborate with German authorities to facilitate the repatriation of Somali nationals without residence permits or those who have struggled to integrate into German society.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who is currently on an official visit to Germany at the invitation of Chancellor Olaf Scholz, revealed this in an interview with BILD.
This decision comes as Germany hosts over 60,000 Somalis, primarily asylum seekers, and has seen 5,800 new asylum applications from Somalis this year alone.
This initiative aims to address legal and social integration issues within the Somali community in Germany, aligning with broader efforts to improve coordination on migration and diaspora affairs.
The cooperation could pave the way for Somali nationals who face challenges in Germany to receive support upon their return, ensuring they have opportunities to rebuild their lives in Somalia.
