Goobjoog Media Group Condemns the Arrest of its Editor

Goobjoog Media Group (GMG) has condemned as “illegal” the decision by the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) to arrest its editor.

According to GMG, the government committed an illegality in arresting Editor Abdiaziz Ahmed Gurbiye.

Further, it insisted that the arrest is part of government’s efforts aimed at suppressing freedom of expression in the Horn of Africa nation.

GMG released a statement that said, “The Tuesday arrest of our editor is illegal and only designed to satisfy the self-serving interests of specific government officials.”

It also insisted that the officials behind the arrest are violating the country’s laws.

Gurbiye wears multiple hats. First, he is GMG’s Deputy Director. Additionally, he also serves as the Editor of Goobjoog News.

His apprehension came after the Attorney General issued a warrant of arrest on behalf of the Office of President Mohamed Farmaajo.
