Mogadishu, Somalia – In Mogadishu, the Somali National Army’s elite Gorgor forces conducted a live combat display showcasing their advanced military capabilities before senior officials and international partners.
The event, held at the TURKSOM military academy, was attended by Somalia’s Defence Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi and Turkish military trainers who have overseen the unit’s instruction. The demonstration featured a series of tactical maneuvers, precision rifle exercises, and reconnaissance techniques, underscoring the unit’s growing professionalism.
Graduates of the TURKSOM program executed simulated combat formations, movement under fire, and coordinated response drills designed to reflect real battlefield conditions. Observers noted the troops’ discipline and the evident impact of the joint Somali–Turkish training model.
Fiqi commended the forces for their readiness and highlighted the importance of such exercises in strengthening national security. He also praised Türkiye’s sustained military support, stressing that the partnership has played a key role in building specialized units capable of confronting militant threats across the country.
Turkish trainers present at the display reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Somalia’s security institutions and expanding the capabilities of the Gorgor forces through ongoing instruction and strategic guidance.
The Gorgor unit, one of Somalia’s most prominent special forces groups, continues to serve on the front lines in counterterrorism operations. Officials indicated that the demonstration was not only a test of skills but also a sign of progress in Somalia’s broader effort to restore stability and enhance its national defense capacity.
