The Federal Government of Somalia has deployed a contingent of police officers to Jazeera Beach to apprehend of weed out members of the Al-Shabaab militia.
The decision to send the officers to the beach emanates from the recent increased attacks by the Al-Qaeda linked group in the area.
Jazeera is popular with both local and international tourists.
Unfortunately, Al-Shabaab militants target tourists in this area for muggings and robbery. After robbing beach lovers, the extremists quickly flee the scene of crime.
Mogadishu’s Mayor Omar Muhamoud Finnish recently visited the area with other government officials and promised to eradicate members of the extremist group.
He said the government would not watch silently as beach lovers in Jazeera are robbed and mugged every day by Al-Shabaab members.
