Latest reports from Beled-Hawad District show that Somalia forces are engaged in a fierce battle with troops defending Abdirashid Janan, a fugitive minister.
Janan, a former Security Minister in the Jubaland government, is on the run. The war pitting his troops against government forces is at the border between Somalia and Kenya.
The former minister’s troops control the area along the border.
As the fight rages on, business in Mandera County (Kenya) and the Bulo Amin region has stopped. Leaders and residents of Mandera County accuse the government of Kenya of accommodating the fugitive and defending him with the country’s armed troops.
According to the leaders and residents, the action by the government is a direct contravention of Kenya’s laws and the constitution. Previously, Somalia asked Kenya to hand over Abdirashid Janan, whom they want to answer charges of committing serious crimes.
Last month, Janan escaped from government custody before crossing the border into Kenya.
