Government Never Interferes with the Work of the Somaliland Electoral Commission

The government has never interfered with the work of the Somaliland National Electoral Commission (SLNEC).

Suleiman Yusuf Ali Koore, the Minister of Information, Culture, and National Guidance, refuted reports of government interference in the workings of the electoral commission.

He spoke even as reports indicate that SLNEC is divided into two factions.

The information minister mentioned that the government has always held elections as per the dictates of the country’s constitution.

Recent squabbles between SLNEC commissioners are nothing other than personal disagreements between them, the minister said.

He advised opposition parties to abide by the country’s timeline for holding presidential and parliamentary elections.
