Government Troops Conduct a Jowhar Security Operation

Reports from Jowhar show that the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has sent its troops into the region to carry out a security operation.

The government launched the security operation in response to a heavy explosion that was heard in the town last night.

A landmine exploded in the town killing one person. It left another five people nursing their injuries. Among the injured was a HirShabelle lawmaker known as Zakariya Mumin Hilowle.

All the injured were rushed to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment.

Residents have confirmed the presence of armed forces in the town. The forces are conducting an operation in the area surrounding a popular football field where the landmine went off.

During the operation, security forces arrested a suspect whom it has kept in detention in Jowhar Police Station.

Thus far, no group or individual has claimed responsibility for the deadly IED explosion. However, Al-Shabaab is renowned for conducting similar types of attacks.
