Government’s Aerial Spraying Exercise against Locusts Kicks off in Nugal

The Federal Government of Somalia has kicked off the aerial spraying exercise as part of the measures put in place to fight the locust invasion that has hit Nugal region.

The exercise, which kicked off on Tuesday, is to eradicate the locusts that have been a menace in the region since late last year.

Locusts attacked the Horn of Africa region from last year.

Recently, the government of Somalia received a donation of aerial sprayers from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Further, the government announced that it would undertake a similar exercise in Galmudug once it is through with the one currently underway in Puntland.

According to the government, the current exercise is designed to last 10 days.

Locusts have been destroying huge tracts of vegetation in the country, and this has forced both FAO and USAID to finance the aerial spraying project.
