Governor Ali Roba says Somalia Clashes Increase Instability in Mandera

According to Governor Ali Roba, Mandera Town and the surrounding regions remain unstable and insecure because of the recent Somalia clashes.

The clashes pitted Somali National Army and forces loyal to Jubaland fugitive minister, Abdirashid Janan, on different sides.

Last week’s clashes brought business in Mandera Town to a standstill. It led to accusations and counteraccusations between Somalia and Kenya.

Somalia accused Kenya of meddling in its internal affairs. Kenya, on the other hand, said Somalia had breached territorial integrity by fighting Jubaland forces in Mandera Town.

On Saturday and Sunday, a quick evaluation showed that semblance of order and peace prevailed in the town.

Governor Roba, of Mandera County, tweeted that “the situation had not improved in the county.” He said Jubaland forces are still in hiding in the northeastern Kenya town.
