Growing Insecurity Forces Doctors Without Borders to Leave Las Anod

Growing insecurity in the Somali region of Las Anod has forced Doctors Without Borders to pull their staff from the area.

Doctors Without Borders (MSF), a medical humanitarian organization, announced that it would withdraw its services and personnel from Las Anod until security improves.

Las Anod has been home to violent clashes for much of this year.

Hundreds of people have lost their lives while thousands more fled their homes when the situation grew worse. They now live as internally displaced persons (IDPs) elsewhere.

“Repeated security incidents have made it impossible for us to deliver medical care safely,” MSF said in its statement.

Specifically, MSF indicated that the situation has affected its services at Las Anod General Hospital.

“Medical facilities in the region have constantly faced a barrage of attacks that make it impossible to continue providing services,” it added in its statement.
