On Sunday, the residence of Mayor Suleiman Hassan Hadi of Borama was under heavy attack by unknown gunmen.
The incident, which occurred at midnight on Sunday, left the occupants of the house including the Mayor shell-shocked.
Reports indicate that several heavily armed people attempted to force their way into the residence before security officers guarding the place fired at them and thwarted their efforts.
The two groups exchanged fire for several minutes before the heavily armed men fled from the scene.
Although the Mayor was in the area together with his family during the time of the incident, none of them was hurt.
Mayor Hadi’s neighbors and other locals living nearby said they heard the gunshots, which only ended once the assailants had escaped.
Borama, which is the administrative seat of Awdal Province, has been under intense attacks repeatedly that seem to target homes of government officials and police stations.
