Gunmen shot and killed a local Puntland MP in Galkayo, Mudug.
Last night, while armed with pistols, they waylaid Mukhtar Ahmed Omar, a local councilor in North Galkayo, near Sonnet Company.
Witnesses said Omar was then rushed to the hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
None of the assailants was arrested, though. They rushed out of the scene of crime before security forces could arrive.
Mukhtar has been a member of Galkayo Town local assembly.
Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack. It said, “Our hit squad executed the assassination of elected officials in Puntland.”
Galkayo authorities are yet to comment on the councilor’s shocking and brutal murder.
