Hamza Abdi Barre is the new Prime Minister of Somalia.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud announced the appointment of the new Prime Minister from Villa Somalia.
Barre’s appointment was made official on Wednesday, June 15.
He now takes over from Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble who had been in the role for the last two years since September 2020.
Roble was made Prime Minister during the reign of the immediate former President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo.
Barre steps up from his role as a Member of Parliament (MP) elected to represent Jubbaland state in the House of the People (Lower House).
The new Prime Minister belongs to the same political party as President Mohamud.
