Hargeisa Marathon Seeking International Recognition

Hargeisa Marathon has grown in stature and popularity in Somaliland. Today, the marathon is on its fourth edition.

However, organizers are not resting easy on their laurels. Instead, they plan to make the marathon universally popular.

The marathon has been attracting athletes from America, Asia, and Europe since its inception four years ago. This week, 2,500 runners confirmed that they would attend this year’s edition.

Run in a region that is famed for producing tons of topnotch marathoners, Hargeisa Marathon organizers now hope to attract more than 7,500 runners in the 2021 edition.

According to Dahabshiil Group of Companies, who are the main organizers, “We endeavor to build Hargeisa Marathon up to make it one of the best in Africa.”

The organizers also added that the race has attracted athletes from various nations and cultures. They also appreciate the different creeds and values represented by the athletes.

Organizers say that they seek to learn as much as they can from Nairobi Marathon, which now enjoys international stature.
