Abdi Hashi Abdullahi has emerged victorious in elections held on April 26 for the Speaker of the Senate (Upper House).
Hashi had been the incumbent.
As per the law, he had to step aside and present himself for reelection once the Upper House was reconstituted following the election of new legislators.
Hashi garnered the requisite 28 votes out of the 54 available from the Senators.
His closest challenger was Salah Jama who received 24 votes.
Osman Dubbe came third with two votes.
Jama is the Minister of Constitutional Affairs while Dubbe serves as the Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism for the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS).
