BAIDOA — The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, alongside the Interim Leader of South West State, H.E. Jibril Abdirashid Haji Abdi, recently co-chaired a massive, multi-agency security and administrative summit in Baidoa.
Integrating Federal and Regional Security
The high-level gathering brought together the South West State Council of Ministers and the nation’s top security chiefs, including senior representatives from the Somali National Army (SNA), the Somali Police Force, and the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA).
The primary focus of the summit was to comprehensively evaluate ongoing counter-terrorism campaigns and assess the prevailing security situation across the region. Discussions centered heavily on improving direct tactical collaboration between federal and local security bodies to create a cohesive, robust approach to mitigating asymmetric threats. This push for integration builds upon the recent federal mandate to stabilize the region following the appointment of the new interim administration.
Addressing Drought and Economic Infrastructure
Beyond kinetic military operations, the participants reviewed vital progress in localized stabilization efforts. The Council of Ministers provided detailed briefings on the urgent need to accelerate responses to the severe, ongoing drought conditions ravaging the rural interior, echoing recent federal directives prioritizing emergency humanitarian relief and inter-agency coordination.
President Hassan Sheikh strongly emphasized the critical need for greater administrative alignment between the Federal Government and regional authorities. He stressed that unified, synchronized efforts are absolutely essential to improve public service delivery, successfully rebuild vulnerable administrative institutions, and advance local economic infrastructure.
