Head of FAO in Somalia Warns over Worsening Humanitarian Situation

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Representative for Somalia has issued a warning over the worsening humanitarian situation in the country.

Etienne Peterschmitt, who also serves as FAO’s Country Director for Somalia, issued the warning on Friday, April 22.

According to Petershcmitt, the situation is growing worse with each passing day.

The FAO Somalia chief said that the number of people facing acute food insecurity has now reached 6 million.

In January this year, that number stood at 2.4 million people.

Consequently, Peterschmitt has called for emergency intervention by the international community.
