Health Ministry Asks for Collaboration in Fight against HIV in Somalia

The Ministry of Health has urged all stakeholders in Somalia to embrace collaboration in the fight against HIV.

Dr. Abdinasir Sh Mukhtar, the Director General at the health ministry, said this on October 6.

He was speaking during an event that the ministry’s HIV Prevention Department held with representatives from a couple of private hospitals.

In his speech, Dr. Mukhtar said that collaboration is key to overcoming the challenges that emerge in the fight against HIV.

HIV rates in this East African nation remain relatively low.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), less than 30,000 people are HIV positive in Somalia.

Dr. Mukhtar said that stakeholders need to work together to ensure that discrimination against HIV patients stops.
