Healthcare Workers Trained on COVID-19 Management in Hargeisa

Healthcare workers in Hargeisa have received training on COVID-19 case management.

The training was jointly organized by the Ministry of Health in Somaliland in conjunction with King’s College London.

Somaliland has not enjoyed the fruits of a robust healthcare system after decades of neglect following the civil unrest in Somalia in the 1990s.

With its health facilities destroyed and healthcare professionals migrating from the country, Somaliland has suffered greatly from the effects of COVID-19.

However, that is now about to change after King’s College London and Ministry of Health organized a workshop to improve health workers’ skills.

Part of the goal of the training is to improve regional coordination. The training also seeks to boost the organizational capacity and functionality of the health system.

Secondly, the organizers said their goal is also to enable rapid response teams to be effective at surveillance and managing each COVID-19 case.
