Heavy Rains Displace Thousands in Somalia, WFP Reports

Mogadishu — Intense seasonal rains across Somalia have displaced additional families and brought the total number of affected people to 84,000, according to the latest update from the World Food Programme (WFP) Somalia.

The report states that many of those displaced have been on the move since the beginning of this year due to unpredictable weather patterns that have disrupted traditional livelihoods and left communities vulnerable.

As the rainy season winds down, the humanitarian response is intensifying to provide shelter, food assistance, and other urgent support to those most in need.

WFP Somalia noted that unpredictable rainfall — including flash floods and unseasonal downpours — is becoming more frequent and is exacerbating Somalia’s long-standing food insecurity crisis.

Aid agencies are working to scale up their support as communities struggle to recover and rebuild amid a shifting climate landscape.
