One of Somalia’s most highly celebrated authors died on October 10.
Dr. Mohamed Dahir Afrah has been the best-known author to have emerged from the East African nation in years.
In many ways, he’s often appeared as the face of Somalis in the diaspora.
Dr. Afrah had been living in London.
On Sunday, President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo led his country in mourning Dr. Afrah.
Farmaajo described him as someone “who spent his life advocating for the development of not only the Somali language but also culture.”
Dr. Afrah will be best remembered for authoring Maana-faay, one of the most impactful novels written in the Somali language.
He authored the book in 1979.
