President Mohamed Abdi Ware of HirShabelle has suspended a state minister who violated the recently enacted COVID-19 preventive measures.
Sadik Mukhtar Abdulle, the Minister of Constitutional Affairs, attended a ceremony in Jowhar yesterday in direct violation of measures put in place by President Ware’s administration.
Abdulle attended the ceremony only a few days after the death of another minister, Khalif Mumin.
At the time of his death, Mumin was the Minister of Justice in HirShabelle. Mumin died of COVID-19 complications.
Consequently, his death forced President Ware to impose several measures to protect other cabinet ministers.
One of the measures entailed the ministers staying in quarantine for the recommended duration of 14 days.
World Health Organization (WHO) has advised people suspected of being exposed to COVID-19 to stay in quarantine for 14 days.
However, the fact that Abdulle flouted these rules forced President Ware to take the unprecedented step of suspending him.
