President Mohamed Abdi Ware could be removed from office if the motion tabled by sitting Members of Parliament attracts sufficient support.
Last night, Speaker of the State Parliament, Osman Barre, announced during a press conference that he had received a motion filed by 54 MPs seeking the removal of President Ware.
The MPs accuse President Ware of committing widespread corruption while in office. They also blame him for violating the HirShabelle constitution.
Speaker Osman has promised to organize an extraordinary session to examine the issue further with the MPs.
Meanwhile, Abdi Hussein Gedi, the First Deputy Speaker of HirShabelle State Parliament, also confirmed receiving a motion signed by 63 MPs seeking to remove Speaker Osman from office.
Consequently, the Deputy Speaker promised to hold an extraordinary session immediately to remove Barre from office.
The feuds revolving around the lawmakers and the two leaders come a month to the end of President Ware’s term in office.
