Hoosow Welcomes Opposition Talks with Somali President

Mogadishu, Somalia — Somali presidential contender Abdi Hoosow has praised reports indicating that key opposition figures have agreed to meet with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, calling it “a vital breakthrough” for Somalia’s political landscape.

Speaking to reporters this week, Hoosow urged all sides to put the nation’s interests first, emphasizing that genuine compromise and constructive dialogue were key to moving Somalia forward.

“This is an important moment,” Hoosow said. “When leaders come together in the spirit of unity and mutual respect, we can overcome the divisions that have held back our progress.”

He also cautioned against portraying the opposition as belonging to a single group or faction.

“The opposition is diverse and representative of many viewpoints. There must be room for all voices to participate in shaping Somalia’s future,” Hoosow said.

Hoosow called on both the government and the opposition to make the most of this opportunity, suggesting that an inclusive national dialogue could help bridge political gaps and focus attention on pressing national challenges, including security, humanitarian needs, and the economy.

He concluded by reiterating his commitment to pursuing peaceful and cooperative solutions in the interest of all Somali people.
