Hormuud’s CEO, Ahmed Mohamud Yusuf, has called for clarity in relation to the efforts put in place to test and contain the spread of COVID-19 in Africa.
Yusuf also stated that telecoms are likely to play a critical role in ensuring that Africa conducts a successful battle against COVID-19.
So far, Africa has recorded 103,875 COVID-19 cases with 3,184 confirmed deaths. Other than that, the continent has also reported 41,576 recoveries.
According to Yusuf, the situation is likely to worsen in the coming weeks and months. He cites the rising cases and deaths in Somalia.
Yusuf was born and raised in Somalia. He also runs his business in the country.
The CEO of Hormuud says that international governments and organizations must support telecoms in the continent to disseminate accurate and timely information on COVID-19.
Yusuf says that Africa has to rely on the essential services that telecoms provide to ensure that COVID-19 does not get out of hand anywhere in the continent.
Consequently, he has asked governments around the continent to support the incredible work telecoms are playing in the fight against the virulent disease.
