Hosh Chairs 3rd Annual CRVS National Steering Committee Meeting in Mogadishu

Mogadishu, Somalia – The Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation, Ali Yusuf Hosh, chaired the Third Annual National Steering Committee Meeting on Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) this week in Mogadishu.

The high-level meeting convened senior representatives from key federal ministries and government agencies to review the progress of the national CRVS strategy. Participants assessed ongoing efforts to improve civil registration systems and discussed obstacles and potential solutions to strengthen data collection and identity management across the country.

Hosh emphasized the critical role of CRVS in national planning, service delivery, and governance. “A functional and inclusive CRVS system is essential for securing citizens’ rights, improving service access, and supporting national development,” he said during his opening remarks.

The session also offered a platform for collaboration among stakeholders to align efforts and accelerate implementation of Somalia’s CRVS roadmap. Challenges such as limited infrastructure, funding constraints, and inter-agency coordination were identified, along with opportunities for digital transformation and capacity building.

The meeting concluded with renewed commitments from all parties to enhance coordination and mobilize resources to achieve universal and continuous civil registration across Somalia.
