Hosh Urges Speed in Voter Registration During Somalia’s Electoral Commission Visit

Mogadishu, Somalia – Somalia’s Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation, Ali Yusuf Ali Hosh, paid an inspection visit to the offices of the National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC) on Sunday, where he praised the institution’s leadership and staff for their ongoing efforts to advance the country’s democratic process.

During the visit, Hosh toured several departments within the commission, meeting with officials who briefed him on the progress made in preparing for the next phase of electoral activities.

He lauded the commission for what he described as “remarkable progress” in strengthening Somalia’s electoral infrastructure, which remains key to consolidating governance reforms and deepening public trust.

Speaking after the inspection, the minister emphasized the urgency of speeding up the voter registration process, calling it the foundation of credible and inclusive elections.

“The momentum must continue. Somalia’s future depends on timely and transparent elections that give every citizen a voice in shaping the country’s direction,” he noted.

Commission leaders assured the minister of their readiness to meet the government’s timeline, noting that technical teams are working to finalize logistical frameworks and coordinate with regional administrations to ensure a fair and efficient registration exercise.

The visit underscores the government’s commitment to advancing electoral readiness amid Somalia’s ongoing transition toward full democratic governance. For Hosh, the trip was not only an inspection—it was a signal that the path toward universal suffrage remains a national priority, one that requires both urgency and collective effort.
