Several human rights organizations have jointly written a letter to President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo on the recently enacted media law.
In their letter, the organizations have requested Farmaajo to amend the media law and remove some of the most contentious issues or clauses from it.
Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and the Committee to Protect Journalists appended their signatures to the letter.
In it, they requested Farmaajo to act fast before the upcoming elections.
Further, the organizations urged the Federal Government of Somalia to take urgent measures to create conducive, lawful, and secure environment for all journalists to work.
The letter, dated was signed October 5, 2020, mentioned the Media Law, which Farmaajo assented to in August 2020.
