Federal authorities believe the country’s Humanitarian Response Plan needs an injection of $1 billion to assist 3 million people.
More than three million people in Somali need humanitarian assistance.
The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Somalia, Adam Abdelmoula, said, “Two months ago, floods affected more than 500,000 people all over the country.”
He also mentioned that many victims of the floods have gone back home. However, the whole situation has made it difficult for many Somalis to rebuild their lives.
The Coordinator said this when launching the fund-raising appeal in Mogadishu.
Hamza Said Hamza, the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, said, “As we launch the Humanitarian Response Plan, we demonstrate our commitment to Somalis.”
The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs launched the plan in conjunction with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, and the international community.
