Hundreds of Al-Shabaab fighters died when the Somali National Army (SNA) organized an operation jointly with United States forces on Wednesday.
The joint operation, which took place in Gal-Libah and El-Qurac, claimed the lives of 100 members of the Al-Shabaab militia group.
Gal-Libah and El-Qurac are two villages lying along the border between Galgadud and Middle Shabelle.
A statement from the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism confirmed the incident and the number of militants killed in the operation.
In the statement, the ministry added that those killed included Al-Shabaab leaders.
The Somali government expressed gratitude to the US for the support it has received in the ongoing fight against Al-Shabaab.
