Iceland has announced plans to deport up to 200 immigrants seeking asylum in the country.
The 200 likely deportees include Somali immigrants too.
The plans by the Icelandic nation have attracted condemnation from various quarters.
Most of the organizations condemning the plans are saddened by the fact that an individual with a physical disability could also be deported.
Initially, the Icelandic government had planned to deport 300 people.
However, it later reduced the number to 200.
Most of the deportees are from Iraq and Nigeria.
Iceland plans to deport them first to Greece from where they would then be moved to their countries of origin. Alternatively, Greece could allow them to stay.
Iceland’s Red Cross has already called the plans “unlawful.”
The Nordic nation’s laws prohibit the deportation of immigrants to dangerous countries.
Many of those seeking asylum are running away from persecution in their countries of origin.
