IED Blast in Lower Shabelle Kills 5 People

An explosion has been recorded in the Doonka area of Lower Shabelle claiming several lives and leaving more injured, according to local authorities.

This is yet another tragic reminder of the persistent insecurity and the devastating impact of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) attacks in Somalia.

This region has long been a flashpoint for insurgent activities, with Al-Shabaab militants frequently targeting both civilians and security personnel.

These attacks not only claim innocent lives but also place a significant burden on already strained healthcare systems, like Medina Hospital, which handles a high number of critical cases in Mogadishu.

Saturday’s attack left five people dead. The 10 injured in the attack were rushed to Medina Hospital in Mogadishu for treatment.

The continued targeting of farmers and rural communities is particularly concerning, as it disrupts livelihoods and exacerbates the challenges Somalia faces with food security and development.

Increased efforts are needed to improve security, defuse these threats, and protect civilians from such senseless violence.
