IGAD Advocates for Civilian Leadership in Khartoum

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has called for civilian leadership in Khartoum.

Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, the Executive Director of IGAD, proclaimed the organization’s desires during a recent media interview.

He assured the organization’s members of the ability and willingness of IGAD to deal with problems affecting the region.

Currently, Sudan acts as the Chairman of the IGAD Summit.

He also spoke about the plans by IGAD to bring stability to Somalia. Dr. Gebeyehu said that IGAD is interested in strengthening the capacity of security institutions.

The IGAD leader added that the organization encourages Somalis to build stronger institutions.

Further, Dr. Gebeyehu commended Somalis for the recent successful elections.

“In Africa, it is difficult to unseat a serving President. Somalia has been doing that better than any other African nation,” Dr. Gebeyehu added.
