The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has condemned a terrorist attack against African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) forces.
ATMIS forces came under heavy attack from Al-Shabaab militants.
The attack took place on Tuesday, May 3.
Several soldiers from the Burundian contingent based at the El-Baraf forward operating base (FOB) in the region lost their lives in the attack.
Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, the IGAD Executive Secretary, condemned the attack strongly.
Nevertheless, he promised IGAD’s continued support to the government and people of Somalia to improve security in the nation.
He urged Somalia’s international partners to continue supporting the country to deliver the lasting peace and security that Somalis crave.
