IGAD Releases Funds to Somalia

IGAD has released US$100,000 to Somalia to help the Horn of Africa nation combat the deadly Coronavirus that has grounded economies around the world.

Ambassador Mohamed Ali-Nur Haji, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation received the check from IGAD’s Jemal Ahmed.

Jemal Ahmed is the Senior Liaison Officer at the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development in Mogadishu.

He handed the check for US$100,000 to the representative of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) in Mogadishu on Monday.

Somalia has confirmed seven positive COVID-19 cases in the country. One patient has recovered fully while the country is yet to record any deaths related to the pandemic.

IGAD handed over this money from the US$700,000 collected from the 430 employees working for it all over the region.
