The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) supports the quest for Somalia to have its internationally-imposed arms embargo lifted.
IGAD’s Ministers of Foreign Affairs agreed to support the quest by Somalia.
They met earlier on Thursday on the sidelines of the 48th Meeting of IGAD Foreign Affairs Ministers in Khartoum, Sudan.
Last month, Somalia failed to convince the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to lift the embargo that has been in place for decades.
Abshir Omar Jama, Somalia’s foreign affairs minister, addressed his colleagues on this issue.
In his speech, Jama said that the embargo remains an obstacle to the efforts of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) to make the country safe, peaceful, and stable for all.
