The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has agreed to establish a Regional Climate Security Coordination Mechanism.
IGAD agreed to establish the mechanism on December 1 when its Council of Ministers met.
The organization’s Council of Ministers agreed to establish the mechanism as a way of building the capacity of IGAD member states to anticipate climate-induced conflicts and displacements.
Further, the mechanism would provide member states with tools for preventing and mitigating similar conflicts and displacements.
