IGAD Urges Somalia and Ethiopia to Engage in Constructive Dialogue

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has called upon Somalia and Ethiopia to embrace “constructive dialogue.”

This was the result of the IGAD extraordinary summit held in Kampala, Uganda on January 18.

IGAD convened the summit to discuss the growing diplomatic tension between Somalia and Ethiopia.

The former accuses the latter of violating its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

This is after Ethiopia signed the controversial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Somaliland on New Year’s Day.

In its report published after the meeting, IGAD urged the two nations to “de-escalate tensions” too.
