IMF Gives Somalia up to May 17 to Complete Presidential and Parliamentary Polls

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has given Somalia a deadline of May 17, 2022, to conclude presidential and parliamentary elections.

Currently, Somalia is holding parliamentary elections for House of the People (Lower House) seats.

The parliamentary elections are set for conclusion by February 25.

Thereafter, the East African nation should hold presidential elections.

On February 19, IMF issued the closest thing to an ultimatum to the stakeholders in Somalia to hold elections within the set time.

Otherwise, it would withdraw its support towards the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS).

IMF also threatened to stop supporting the Somali National Army (SNA) if the country fails to hold elections within the set time.
