Increased terror attacks in recent weeks and days have stopped the reopening of the border between Kenya and Somalia.
Kithure Kindiki, the Kenyan Minister of Interior, said that the government would not permit the reopening of the border at the moment.
Kindiki provided the latest update on this issue on Wednesday.
This contradicted the announcement he made in conjunction with Mohamed Ahmed Sheikh Ali in May.
Back then, Kindiki and Sheikh Ali, his Somali counterpart, announced intentions to reopen the border between the two neighboring nations.
The Kenya-Somalia border has been closed since 2011.
However, the happenings of the last few months and days stopped such a move.
Al-Shabaab terrorists have continuously launched attacks along the border and also on the Kenyan side before rushing back to their hideouts in Somalia.
Eight Kenyan police officers have lost their lives in such attacks over the last couple of weeks.
