India is preparing to open a consulate in Mogadishu, Somalia, as part of efforts to strengthen diplomatic relations and expand its presence in East Africa.
Ahmed Fiqi revealed this during his meeting with Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, India’s Minister of External Affairs, on Thursday.
Fiqi, Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, held talks with Dr. Jaishankar on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA79).
This development is significant for enhancing bilateral ties, facilitating trade, and supporting regional peace initiatives.
Additionally, the consulate will provide consular services to Indian citizens in Somalia and foster collaboration in areas like security, infrastructure, and development.
Fiqi and Dr. Jaishankar agreed that an Indian consulate in Mogadishu would give Somalis easier access to visa services.
The move reflects India’s growing interest in engaging with African nations and supporting Somalia’s recovery and development efforts.
