MOGADISHU — The Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism for the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Daud Aweis, formally concluded a significant one-day workshop on Wednesday focused on developing comprehensive protocols for government communication during national emergencies.
The event in Mogadishu gathered communication and media officials from diverse government agencies. Participants engaged in practical exercises, case studies, and crisis simulations intended to evaluate and enhance coordination among official information channels during critical incidents.
Countering Misinformation
During his closing address, Minister Daud Aweis highlighted that the Federal Government has made unifying its messaging strategy a priority. He underscored the necessity of providing rapid, accurate, and timely information to the public.
The Minister stated that a unified communication approach serves as the most effective means to counter misinformation and fabrication campaigns frequently disseminated by Khawaarij (Al-Shabaab) and other extremist groups.
Strategic Capacity
The closing event culminated with the presentation of certificates to all participants. Minister Daud Aweis and the State Minister of Defense, H.E. Omar Ali Abdi, jointly awarded the certificates, recognizing the participants’ dedication to improving the country’s strategic communication capacities.
