Mogadishu, Somalia – The Federal Government of Somalia’s Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, represented by Minister Daud Aweis, signed a landmark cooperation agreement today.
Aweis signed the agreement with Dr. Ibrahim Dhere, Rector of Mogadishu University.
The agreement seeks to advance media professionalism and cultural development across the country.
It outlines collaborative initiatives between the ministry and the prestigious university to foster academic research, practical training, and cultural documentation.
Key areas of cooperation include curriculum development in journalism and communication studies, joint media production projects, preservation of Somali cultural heritage, and internship programs for students in government media institutions.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Aweis emphasized the importance of academic-government partnerships in promoting quality journalism and safeguarding Somalia’s rich cultural identity.
“This partnership will bridge the gap between theory and practice, while empowering a new generation of Somali media professionals with the tools to tell our stories accurately and responsibly,” he stated.
Dr. Ibrahim Dhere, on his part, highlighted Mogadishu University’s commitment to strengthening Somalia’s intellectual and cultural foundations.
“Through this agreement, we hope to contribute to the national vision of peacebuilding, civic engagement, and development through informed and ethical media,” he said.
The partnership marks a significant step toward institutional cooperation in the Somali media landscape, aligning with the government’s broader goals of capacity building and cultural revival under the ministry’s national development framework.
The agreement is expected to be implemented in phases, with the first phase focusing on student engagement, resource sharing, and capacity-building workshops.
