As part of Somalia’s ongoing federalization efforts, the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, in collaboration with the leadership of SSC-Khaatumo, will jointly organize a foundational conference to formalize SSC-Khaatumo’s status as a Federal Member State.
This decision was announced in the latest communique from the National Consultative Council (NCC) meeting currently underway in Mogadishu.
The planned conference marks a pivotal step in completing SSC-Khaatumo’s federal integration process, ensuring its administrative, political, and legal structures are aligned with the Provisional Constitution.
The collaborative approach reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive governance and a locally driven state formation process.
The ministry and SSC-Khaatumo authorities are expected to oversee a transparent and participatory process that brings together regional stakeholders, traditional leaders, civil society, and national institutions.
The outcome of the conference will lay the groundwork for SSC-Khaatumo’s full participation in Somalia’s federal system, including representation in federal institutions and access to national resources.
This development is seen as a major milestone in Somalia’s nation-building agenda, especially in stabilizing historically contested regions and advancing local governance.
