Internal Security Minister Blasts Somalia Parliament for Ousting Prime Minister Khaire

Mohamed Abukar Islow, Somalia’s Minister of Internal Security has blasted parliament for passing the no confidence motion against Prime Minister Ali Khaire.

Islow is one of Prime Minister Khaire’s biggest supporters.

According to the internal security minister, Khaire was the target of Members of Parliament (MPs) opposed to his call for timely elections.

Furthermore, Islow says the Prime Minister’s ouster is full of political undertones considering that Speaker Mohamed Mursal has his eyes set on a 2-year term extension.

In Islow’s opinion, Mursal would be one of the biggest beneficiaries if elections do not take place on schedule.

Earlier today, 170 MPs voted to remove the Prime Minister from office. Khaire only received the backing of eight MPs.

Consequently, Speaker Mursal has urged Farmaajo to appoint a new Prime Minister to replace Khaire immediately and start preparing the country for popular elections.
