The United Nations in Somalia and other members of the international community have expressed their misgivings at the attempts by Somalia’s House of Representatives to support and pass a motion allowing child marriage.
In a message posted on Twitter on Saturday evening, UN in Somalia said it joined other members of the international community to expressed concern to Speaker Mohamed Mursal of the Lower House for the attempt by parliamentarians to pass such an archaic law.
UN in Somalia called the piece of legislation that the Lower House wishes to pass a “deeply-flawed bill.” It hit at the legislators who are attempting to pass a bill that goes against every international convention.
Accordingly, the UN in Somalia has asked President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo’s cabinet to reintroduce the Sexual Offences Bill, which had criminalized some of the issues and acts that the new bill seeks to bring back.
